Just for the Sake of It

The difference between the results with my married name & maiden name:

My fairy name is Briar Icewitch
She protects the vulnerable and brings justice to the wronged.
She lives in leafy dells and bluebell glades.
She is only seen in the enchanted moment between sleep and waking.
She wears bluebell-blue dresses and has icy blue butterfly wings.

Buff-buff-buffalo!

I just found an awesome deal:

Try your luck; take your chance!

So far this year I've tried yak for the first time, I have locally grown and spun Jacobs wool, I have local alpaca - now is my chance to try out buffalo. My fingers will appreciate the downy softness, I'm sure!

Pets can break your heart

So, for now, I'm still a 4 cat household. I had steeled myself to let Sanibel go to the rainbow bridge, but it just didn't feel right. So, too much money, too much time, a few tests, and way too many indignities later, she's back at home. The diagnosis is confirmed; it's liver cancer. Prednisone, however, may, for an unspecified and unguaranteed time, ease some of her symptoms. I have gone that route and she's responding! It may only be a week, but she has a little more time to lay in the sunshine, watch the outside world go by, and enrich my life with her presence. And when she is ready to go the bridge, she has friends waiting to welcome her.

Rain, rain, and more rain

Quite a different summer than lately. Epic rain storms last night - 3 1/2" in 30 minutes. And since we can never leave well enough alone, the inevitable comparison to snow was made: at the usual conversion rate of 10" of snow to an inch of rain, that would have been almost 3' of snow in 1/2 hour! It does put a different spin on it - rain (usually) goes away so much more quickly than snow. Is that propensity to couch everything in terms of winter unique to the Wisconsin character (like referring to distances in terms of time or looking for bubblers when you're thirsty) or is it common to any place in the 'snow belt'? Just wondering...

Take your cat to work day

So today is "Take your cat to work day". Bet you didn't know that! Actually, neither did my boss. Fortunately, he's not fussing. See, the thing is, I'm leaving at noon today to go to the cottage for the weekend. Gallileo usually comes with me on these weekend trips. It's good for him to run around and play with his sister and it's good for the other cats to have some kitten-free time. Normally, I work a full day on Friday, go home, pick the cat up and go. Since we're leaving midday today, that scenario doesn't work. So, to prevent an extra hour or so of driving, I decided to bring him with. And, it's working out. He's found a quiet corner by my desk behind the server and is just chilling. Whew! Now there's just the matter of extracting him when it's time to leave....
